Mental Marketing
Tuesday, April 12th, 2011Spring has sprung, trees are blossoming, and I'm wearing shorts at 8am with all my windows open – yeah!
I was just reading a recent Dan Kennedy newsletter. (If you do't know him and have anything to sell, his free 3-month subscription will arm you with more ideas than you can implement in a year!) Today's thought:
"If you don't know what mental steps, what sequential agreements you must reach with your prospect [i.e., inside their head] to arrive at the sale, how can you guide them?"
Dan's example was someone who markets original artwork to businesses to use as business and client gifts. If you're curious, email me and I'll send the 6 simple sequential thoughts a business owner goes through starting with
1. Recognize they need/want a gift/prize
………..to
6. Decide they need to take action now.
Happy Spring!

Getting Your Time Back
Sunday, March 6th, 2011Have you read The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferris? I'm rereading it. He has a few good tips (ok, a LOT of good tips!) to save you time. Here are a couple:
Go on a one-week media fast:
- No newspapers
- No news websites
- No television
- No reading books (except his – of course! – and 1hr of fiction/pleasure reading before bed)
- No web surfing
And then learn how to be selectively ignorant. That's right! I want to know everything, so this really applies to me:
"Learn to ignore or redirect all information and interruptions that are irrelevant, unimportant, or inactionable. Most are all three."
I highly recommend Tim's book. Here's to getting some time back!

The First Steps
Sunday, February 27th, 2011
In case you are feeling frustrated with the progress on your business, this message just in from the Universe:
"The thing about making it big, and doing it fast is that invariably the first steps will be small and slow.
Which oddly, for many, is the same reason people don't take them."
Be patient with yourself. As Winston Churchill said: "Never, never, never give up."
Cheers!

Marketing for Consultants, Advisors & Experts
Tuesday, January 4th, 2011I was listening to a recorded interview this morning with Mark Satterfield, founder of Gentle Rain Marketing. Marketing has fascinated me for a lot of years. While I'm well aware of the difference between sales and marketing, I find most people don't distinguish between the two.
Mark summed up most consultants marketing dilemma quite nicely: “They associate marketing with sales, and associate sales with selling used cars. So they say to themselves, ‘I don't want to have anything to do with that.’"
But marketing isn’t sales. Especially for a consultant (something I did for 20 years), marketing is something that can keep putting your name out there even while you're busy with another client. Once the gig with one client is complete, the marketing you've had in place makes landing the next client that much easier.
Mark offers a FREE report at his website on How To Create A Steady Stream Of New Clients. Quickly. Easily. With No Cold Calling or Hard Selling. Check it out!
His website is chock full of other great information. You might also check out his book, Unique Sales Stories: How To Get More Referrals, Differentiate Yourself From The Competition & Close More Sales Through The Power Of Stories.
Happy 2011!

too much info?
Friday, December 31st, 2010A quick quote from Dan Kennedy's No B.S. Time Management for Entrepreneurs:
If you don't manage information,
you can't profit from information.
(Thanks Dan. I needed that!)
Wishing you a profitable New Year!

Speed-reading… How about Speed Watching!
Wednesday, December 29th, 2010There are so many great videos and webinar replays available on the internet, but who has time to watch them all? As an Evelyn Woods speed reading graduate, I have been frustrated with having to. slow. down. to. listen. to. every. single. word. Aaargh! There had to be a solution!
So I searched and – yes, there is! I found a REMARKABLE product that can slow down the video (helpful if you're taking notes, or the speaker is just talking too fast). You can also speed up the video to double, triple, even 4x the normal speed (without sounding like the chipmunk sound of a fast-forwarded tape). The sound is very clear. I find I run comfortably between 2x and 3x the normal speed. Not only do I get the information faster, but my attention is less likely to wander.
