Vetting – making intelligent choices

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

The term "vetting" seems to be popping up everywhere lately.  It's something all business owners should be aware of.   Wikepedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vetting) describes it as follows:

"Vetting is a process of examination and evaluation, generally referring to performing a background check on someone before offering him or her employment, conferring an award, etc. In addition, in intelligence gathering, assets are vetted to determine their usefulness."

Vetting is something you should do with every person or company that you do business with.  It will give you more "intelligence" about them, which in turn will

  • Improve your decision-making,
  • Provide more information to base your stand during negotiations, and
  • Help set expectations.

Here's to happy vetting!
